Examples
気温の上昇に伴って、電力の使用量も増えた。
As the temperature rose, electricity usage increased as well.
技術の進歩に伴い、生活は便利になった。
With advances in technology, life has become more convenient.
Easily confused with
につれて Both mean 'as A, B' for parallel change, but につれて needs a *gradual, continuous* shift; に伴って also covers a single event triggering a consequence (an earthquake に伴って a tsunami) and is more formal/written. に従って に従って likewise tracks proportional change but can also mean 'obeying'; に伴って purely marks one change *accompanying* another, with no sense of compliance.
Notes
- 伴う = 'to accompany / entail'. The written に伴い is common in formal text. Use it for large-scale changes: 増加・発展・変化・拡大.
