particle N4 common casualpolitewritten

〜の中で — among / of all ~

〜の中で ・ のなかで

Meaning

なかで marks the set you're choosing or comparing within — 'out of all these'. It's the standard setup for a superlative or a pick: クラスのなかで… ('of everyone in the class…'). For a category rather than a listed group, 〜のなかでも ('even among ~') stresses standing out. The literal 'inside' meaning (はこなかで, 'inside the box') is the same word used spatially.

Key sentence

Of everyone in the class, he is the tallest.
