Easily confused with
すると すると leans narrative ('thereupon, the next thing happened'). そうすると explicitly references 'doing that / that being so,' so it's the natural choice when spelling out the consequence of a stated action or assumption. とすると そうすると points back to a whole previous sentence ('that being so'). とすると attaches directly to a hypothesis within the sentence ('assuming X, then…').
