Easily confused with
〜ても Same meaning — たって is just the casual-spoken form of 〜ても ('even if'). It comes from the た-form + って, not from the past tense. たって (volitional) This たって attaches to the た-form for 'even if [it happens].' Attached to the VOLITIONAL (走ろうたって) it means 'even if one tries to,' stressing futile effort.
